This exciting six day acting Shakespeare course is for
people with some or no experience in playing Shakespeare who would love
to expand their knowledge of how to play the Bard's texts.
The program is designed to disarm any fears you have about playing Shakespeare
by giving you a clear understanding of how Shakespeare wrote; the form
and language devices he used, to help you access character and meaning
with accuracy and without loss of passion. |

language and helped me get into character' -student- Epsom normal primary.

'She taught techniques about how to explore that I could understand
and immediately put to use...'- Rachel-Dyson Mc Gregor graduate Unitec/Actress |
| Course Content |
This course will take the student through a series of exploration
exercises working alone, in groups and with partners.
We will look at the
Iambic pentameter, shared verse lines, rhyming couplets, antithesis,
prose, pauses, breathing, voice, movement, the elements, the givens of
Shakespeare’s time, the structure of the globe theatre and how Shakespeare
is played there; what works and doesn’t work. Mike Alfred’s technique,
objectives, grammar and its function. The sounds of words and the feelings
contained in those sounds, plus a whole host of other useful things to
know about when playing Shakespeare.
The exercises are physical, fun,
and full of ways to help you enjoy Shakespeare and communicate it well. |
